After the telegraph office olosed the vote for the State coal mines was further discussed.
Mr- Herries moved a reduction by £1 as an" indication that the management ai Wellington was not all that could be desired.
This was lost by 23 to 17.
Mr MoGowau said the State coal mines could show they bad brought about a reduction in the price of coal. The total vote passed unaltered. Progress was reported, and the House rose at 1,20 a.m.
'AFTERNOON' SITTING. Wellington, last nigh Tbe House met at 2.30.
The Public Petitions Committee recommended that some means should be devised by which J. J. Meikle’s name could be removed from the prison and publio reoords of the colony. With regard to Meikle’s claim for compensation, the committee had no recommendation to make.
A discussion lasting the whole afternoon ensued, aud the report was referred to tbe Government for consideration. ; EVENING SITTING. The House resumed at 7.30.
The debate on the second reading of the Workers' Dwellings Bill was resumed, and continued throughout the evening.
