AND GENTLEMEN,— I have been honored by he request of a large number of Electors tooSer myself as a Candidate for the House of liepresentatives, and have deoided to accede to • their requisition to contest the Election. ' I shall take an early opportunity of . laying my views before you, but, in the meantime, I may state that I am in favor of (a) Optional FREEHOLD Tenure. (b) LOCAL OPTION, with the imme diate enforcement of the .WILL and INTENTION of the PEOPLE. (o) A more IMPARTIAL and less VEXATIOUS administration oi the laws of the Country. ' (d) Th 9 present system of Election of Local Bodies by RATEPAYER S and BURGESSES being maintained. (a) TARIFF REFORM. (f) ALL MAORIS being placed on the SAME FOOTING as Europeans for the purpose of taxation. I have put before you concisely my views on some of the questions which are causing unrest amongst us, from which you will infer that though in OPPOSITION to the present,Government, -I decline to. pledge myself to any party.
