(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. In the first round of the golf championship final A. Duncan was leading from K. Duncan by five up. Wairoa, yesterday. A native, aged 17, was brough before the Court this morning and charged with breaking and entering V. E. Winter’s dwelling on Wednesday night with intent to commit .a crime. He left his boots behind, which resulted in his speedy arrest. He was remanded to Wednesday. A sneak thief stole the hospital contribution box at the Clyde hotel on Wednesday night. The Land Purchase Commission loft overland yesterday. Miss Wilson, An old resident of Wairoa, died suddenly this morning. Palmerston North, last night. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened this morning Judge Edwards congratulated the district on the lightness of tho calendar, Jthere being only five cases against six persons, and with one exception none of a serious character. True bills were found against John Olaff Jansen, indecent assault on his stepdaughter, under 14 years of age; J. C. Robinson, Jas. Loughlin and J as. Lowe, assault and robbery; Robert Hamilton, theft (two charges); and S. Mawhinney, theft. Westport, last night. Wah Sing, a recent arrival from Blenheim, pleaded guilty to having opium in his possession, and was fined £lO, with £1 10s. costs. The money was paid. Hokitika, last night. At the Supreme Court, Millar, for theft near Lyell, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. The case of Stratford v. Larsen, of Grey Valley, claiming damages £1390 for breach of promise, is now proceeding. The Rev Elliott, on being interrogated, informed a reporter that the head of the New Zealand Alliance had disagreed with the decision of the Westland branch not to run a candidate for the seat to ensure a valid poll on the local option proposals. The branch detegates will he reassembled to reconsider the former decision. A public meeting is to be held here next in regard to Westland being fittingly represented with a court at the New Zealand International Exhibition at Christchurch next year.
