Tho soaking rain of the past fow days, beyond oausing pools to appear on tho low lying lands about South Dunedin and St. Elide, and making tho etroots muddy, has had no damaging effeot about the oity. The railways were slightly affeotod during the day. A slip had to bo oloared at Owhiro, south of Mosgiel, before tho first express south could get through, and at Deep Stream, on tbo Oingo Central lino, trains had to be piloted, lost tho soaking rain should bring down slips. Lato in the afternoon an embankment on the Waipori river, below Berwiok, gave way, and. a considerable amount of water found its way on to tho Bouth end of Taiorl plain, about Henley, necessitating the removal of stook. Tho Taiorl river is rising steadily, and if tho rain continues will probably ovorflow at Outram. Alroady there has been considerable mortality among young lambs on Xaieri plains.
