COURT CASES.
(Per Press Association.)' Wanganui, last night. In the Supreme Court this morning, R. Daniels, town olerk of Marton, who pleaded guilty to the embezzlement of £7OO of borough funds, was brought up for sentence. His counsel stated tbat he had been clerk for three years, and came from the South Island, where he had carried on the business of stock broker. Through failure of the boom ho was left with £6OO or £7OO of debt. He was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment. In the civil case, Gollan v. Parker, judgment was given by oocsent for £250, without costs.
Hokitika, last night.
The Sopreme Court sessions opened this morning before Mr Justice Denniston. True bills were found against George, threatening bodily harm ; Miller, theft; Clark, attempting to break and enter; and Thomaseo, causing grievous bodily harm. The last ease was adjourned for ■ix months, owing to the serious condition of the injured man. Ia the oase of Bidro, associated with Thomasen, the jury found a no bill by direction of His Honor. Later.—ln the Supreme Court Thomas George was acquitted on a charge of attempting to do grievous bodily harm. Andrew Clark was sentenoed to twelve months for breaking and entering at Blackball. Nelson, last night. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day Alfred Hogg was fined £5 Is for inciting, soliciting, or supplying Frederick Elvy, a prohibited person, with beer. The defence had been that Hogg had loft beer in a stable, and Elvy had got at it. Owiog to the increase in loeal cases of drunkenness the Magistrate departed from the usnal custom of letting ofl first offenders, and inflioted fines on two today. ,
