STEAMER ASHORE.
(Per Press Association.) Invoroargill, last night, Tho coastal steamer Rose Casey, formerly well known in the Anokland trade, stranded on the Riverton bar last night. When approaching the bar an acoident happened to her machinery, and she drifted on at 5 o'clock. Two hours later she sprang a leak, and the water rose, extinguishing the fires. A heavy sea is now running, and has carried her a chain inside the bar, and she lies with abont Bft of water in the hold. There is no possibility of refloating the vessel at present. She is owned by a company, and is believed to be insured in Danedin. She has 8000 ft of timber aboard, The orew are ashore.
Danedin, last night. The Rose Casey was going out from "Riverton, loaded with timber for Stewart Island, when she - struck on the bar. A heavy eea was breaking over her early this morning, and the looal agent fears she will become a total wreck. Owing to the Illness of Captain McGiliivray, the vessel 'wm in command of Mr Duncan, the mate, £ho has been two yeare in the trade, and fcas done a lot to open np the sawmilling industry. The insurances on the vessel are £2300 in the Canton Marine, reinsured lor £750 in the Alliance, £3OO in the China Traders, £250 in the South British, and £SOO in the New Zealand.
