Dr Gordon bad a narrow osoape from a BOrious accident yesterday. In driving over a railway crossing he did not notice an approaching train until it was almost on to him. He threw himself out of the oar, and escaped serious injury. The motor oar was carried along by the train for somo distance, and eventually thrown over an embankment. A remittance man named Sbepbard was burnod to death in a wbare on Sunday night on the property of Mr W. Hills, storekeeper, at Awhiiu wharf. It is supClosed the fire was started by a kerosene Bmp. When discovered the flames baa bo great a bold that nothing oould be done to check them. Shephard's body could be soon with all the clothes burnt off.
