Ashburton, last night. What was evidently an attempt to wreck the late express bound for Christ* church was made on Friday night. Four sleepers were placed on the line about one mile north of Chertsey, but the cowcatcher of the engine pdehed them off. Parts of the sleepers were splintered,. The police are enquiring into the matter.
