Hearing of tho insurrection the party wore returning to the coast whon attaoked, All the natives accompanying fled. The Bishop tried to persuade the assailants of the peaceful nature of the mission. All were killed, many with spear wounds. The nuns covered their faoes with their veils and oalmly awaited their fata.
