Under the amazing delusion tha they are making headway with the country, 1 the “ New Liberals ” continue to address large meetings of inquisitive folk in various town halls and other institutions of a like nature. Because large numbers' of people assemble to see the notorions “New. Liberals,” and hear them shout violent things across the footlights about B. J. Seddon, and observe how much it is possible to say - about a public man without getting into trouble, those four egregious young men conclude that they have achieved fame, and that New Zealand is hanging on their words. Nothing of the kind is, of course, the case. The edified elector treats the New Liberal as he would treat a quartette of acrobats. He goes to see thorn perform, and to learn how much of the English language they can incinerate in the course of a sulphurous two hours’ harangue. Their efforts entertain him. He appreciates them at their proper worth, and not infrequently moves them a vote of thanks when they have finished. But the elector would as soon think of voting for Ferry the Frog ” or giving his sup port to Tom Hann. Christchurch Truth.
