(Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night, William Warren, traveller for R. H. Abbott and Co., was before! Justices today and remanded on a charge of stealing goods Valued at £32 from his employers’ warehouse. He was released on bail of £6OO.

Richard Whiteley, an able-bodied man, was sentenced to two months’ gaol for begging from the Rev Gillam, vicar of St. Matthews parish. Acoused accosted Mr Gillam in Queen street, and asked for the price of a meal. Ihe clergyman refused, because accused smelt of liquor. Accused persisting, Mr Gillam gave him in charge. In Court Mr Gillam said it was impossible for clergymen to piss down Queen street without being accosted by beery mendicants like this. It had become almost intolerable. It had been a severe winter, and there was much distress in the city, and the clergy were hard put to meet necessitous cases. Men of this character ,were stopping the flow of charity.

M, Braund, a candidate for Parliament and a Colonial Bank shareholder addressed a' large public meeting last evening on Colonial Bank affairs. He made serious charges against various, persons, nnd invited prosecution, and’ also offered to prosecute a certain person connected with the- bank if funds are forthcoming. A vote of thanks was passed him.
