(Per Press Association.) Auckland, lust night. During the past three weeks the mines in Auckland district yielded bullion, valued at ,£81,439, a record for the threeweekly period in the history of the Auckland goldfields, being JC3475 in excess of the previous best.

I The Supreme Court sessions were I opened this morning by the Chief Justice, I who congratulated the district on the lightnoss of the calendar, only four criminal cases being set down, none of a serious nature. Clara Broughton, a half caste, for forgery and uttering at Hunterville, was given probation for 12 months, and ordered to pay costs. Norman McAlinden, tor breaking the terms of probation, was released, having been in gaol for two months. William Armstrong, for assault, sentence deferred. Wellington, laßt night. I A fire occurred this morning in a shop and building belonging to the Tatum I estate. The fire originated in half of the I premises occupied by a Chinese fruiterI er, Sing On Tie, and his portion of the I building was badly damaged. The other half, occupied by Wickens and Son, picture-framers, was slightly damaged. The Chinaman’s stock was insured for j ,£4OO in the Liverpool, London and | Globe, and Wickens’s stock for £7OO in the Alliance and Standard. This building was covered for ,£Boo in the Northern part being re-insured. Christchurch, last night. Patrick, a middle-aged man, was committed for trial to-day on a charge of uttering a gilded shilling, purporting to be a sovereign,
Blenheim, last night. The adjourned case in which a young I man named Joseph Byrne is charged with assaulting Patrick O’Driscoll in Blenheim in the darkness, with intent to rob him, was called on to day. It was further remanded till the 20th. O’Driscoll, who has been in hospital for nine days with a fractured skull, has not sufficiently recovered to give evidence.
