The Morning Post, referring to the old labor attitude and the adoption of a policy of give-and-take, says it is a good augury of the future of the Commonwealth. Admiral Sir Harry Rawson sails in the Orontea for Sydney. Lady Rawson is much better. Burgess made another unsuccessful attempt to swim the English Channel. Buenos Ayres, Sept. 12. The Argentine Government propose to establish a direct lino of steamers between hero and European ports, the journey to occupy 12 or 14 days, and the subsidy to he 28,000 dollars for every double trip. Vienna, Sopt. 12. The Emperor of Austria declines Fejegrary’s proposal to sanction a univeral Hungary. Christiana, September 12. Norwegian journals assort that Russia is seriously considering the establishment of a naval port on the Murmanian coast, probably at Alexandrovsk.
Belgrade, Sept. 12. The Servian Government has vigorously protested to the Porte. One thousand Arnauts, from Priopoiye, near Novibazar, crossed the frontier, killing five guards and wounding six. Two companies of Servian infantry have gone to the frontier. The Nish garrison is in readiness. New York, September 12. Freight handlers are seeking a conference at Chicago with twenty railway companies. 'They ask for a ten per cent advance.

A petition to release Worthington ou the ground of ill-health will be considered at the next meeting of the Cabinet. The prison medical report confirms the serious condition of the prisoner. Permission has been given to members of the Stock Exchange to tender for the Wellington loan. Adelaide. Sept 18. The Budget referred with satisfae tion to the increase in population, but thought it was not increasing faßt enough. It expressed the opinion that if the British could not make better use of Australia than occupying it with four millions it did not deserve to hold it.
The Budget estimates a £9OOO surplus for the current year, while the snrplus for the year just closed was £43,000.
Perth, September 18. The mail steamer Victoria encountered a terrific hurricane off Cape Leuwm. Several passengers were thrown from their berths and some badly bruised.
Hobart, Sept. 18. The Treasurer has withdrawn his remarks in the Budget commenting on the incapacity of Federal members.
