I Nelson, last night, I At the inquest on Charlos Mills, tho j marker who was shot dead on tho new rifle range of the Wakatu Mounted Rifles on Saturday, tho jury returned a verdict after midnight. They found that deceased was accidentally killed, and added a rider: “ Whilst not considering the construction of the shelter pit and cover contributed to jOceasad’s death, the jury is of the opinion hat the oonatruotion was faulty, and that j the range should not be used again until provided with bettor appliances, and until it has been inspeoted and passed by a responsible military expert; further, that all ranges should be bo inspected before used, and firing parties should have better means of oommunicatiog with tho marker than existed at this range.” The funeral expenses will bo paid by tho Wakatu Rifles. I A movement is also afoet to raise a fund for the widow end orphans. Dunedin, last night.
Thomas White, aged about 20, was working in a manhole on the Mornington tram line this forenoon, when a car struck him. He sustained serious internal injuries, and was removed to the hospital.
