A poll at Kaiapoi on the proposal to introduce the system of rating on unimproved values resulted as follows:—For the proposal, 83 votes; against the proposal, 251. - Wellington, last night. The expedition to the Three Kings to reoover the treasure lost on tbeElingamibe sailed this morning. \ Blenheim, last night. After a trial lasting over two days a young man named William Patrick Foley, eon of a Blenheim milk farmer, was committed for trial on a oharge of breaking into the house of a Blenheim resident at night and stealing therefrom a sum of Bs. The resident was roused from sleep by a noise in the house; and saw a man whom he could not idefatify run off through the front gate. The prosecution lies largely on the footprints found in the front gardoAt the quarterly meeting of the Wairau Licensing Committee, the license of. a hotel at Pioton was cancelled because the owner had failed to effect repairs ordered at the annual meeting, but the cancellation was suspended so that the owner might have another opportunity.
