Thirty-five stndentß attending the Ross’ worthy Agricultural College, 80 miles north of Adelaide, were suddenly taken ill, suffering from poisoning, due to contamination of the water supply. In the Supreme Court at Rockhampton, Queensland, Annie Lewis, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of murdering her infant, but guilty to concealment of birth, was sentenced to a minute’s imprisonment. At the St. Mungo Company’s battery, Eaglehawk (Victoria), Peroy Scott (18) was, with two other youths, feeding the batteries with ore; one of his companions saw him on the ground floor, about 7ft below, crawling on his hands and knees and beckoning for assistance. He found that Scott’s left leg had been completely wrenched off below the knee. Scott had attempted to adjust some belting, and his leg got caught in it.
