The performances of the New Liberal Party led King Dick recently to romark that he was the sole surviving member in tho House of a similar organisation formed a good many years ago, that is to say, in December, 1879. The Party did not last long, and probably that was the reason why the Premier mentioned the organisation, hoping that the House would form analogies. The minute book of the Party is still in existence, and from this it is gathered that the members were :—bamuel P. Andrews (of Christchurch), T. W. Hislop (now Mayor of Wellington), Seymour Thorne George (now a member of the Legislative Council), William J. Speight (of Auckland), C. A. DeLautour (member for Mount Ida, now of Gisborne), Jas. A. Tole (representative of Eden), J. Bickertone Pisher (Westport), B. Harris (now M.L.C.), Bichard John Seddon (member for Kumara, now Premier of the colony), Hugh J. Finn (member for Wakatipu, now of Gisborne), W. Barron (of | Caversham), Kichard H, Beeves (M. L. C ,) and the following, now deceased : Major Te Whero, George Ireland. J. M. Tawhai, 8. Shrimski, F. J. Moss, J. Lundon, whip, and Mr Hislop secretary. At the first meeting it was resolved that tho Chairman should wait upon Mr Sheehan, who was then Native Minister in the Grey Cabinet, and explain to him the reasons which actuated members in forming the party, and |to inform him that nothing hostile to members of the late Ministry £ was meant.— Observer.
