THE BIORAMA TOUR.

THE COOK EPISODE

The War Cry in a long report of tho Bioiama’s visit to Gisborno states, aftor roferring to tho provious successful meetings : Monday was a day of hard and persistent work, getting films printed and dovoloped undor exceedingly groat difficulties, to. show the same ovoning. However, pluck and persovoranco gainod the day, and at night wo wore welljropaid for all our oxoitions by tho uproarious applause which greeted the local films. Tho hall was packed in every part, hundreds being turned away long before starting timo. This, on our sixth night of showing, was truly marvellous, and goes a long way to prove that a good thing can stand being on show for a week. On Tuesday, long before nine a.m., a number of people had booked their seats in the dress circle, and by starting time every seat in tho building was full. Prior to the meeting, we all formed up, and marched down to the Mayoral residence, where Mr and Mrs Townley had prepared a banquet in honor of the Biorama Company ; and for once in our lives we dined with a real live Mayor. To say we enjoyed ourselves, is but a poor manner of speech ; we wero thoroughly at home, and had a good time. After dinner, his Worship spoke a few kindly words of advice to us, and told us to be, above all things, teetotallers, as, after almost seventy years of a temperate life, he was yet hale and hearty. Wo had to tear ourselves away to be in time to open the doors for the crowd, and there they were —a seething mass of humanity, clamoring to get . in at six p.m., and when the doors were opened, they just rushed things and took the place by storm. One old lady of about fifteen stone nearly wiped Rambler was spared to see home I and mother.

Our final meeting was jußt a repetition of previous ones, and we came off victorious, with the magnificent sum of £l4O clear profit from the visit. Long may Gisborne flourish ! They said that Captain Cook landed in Poverty Bay, just a few yards from where the present breakwater stands, some 140 years ago, but had any of my readers been present on the beach of Boat Creek on Wednesday, the 16 h August, 1905, theyj would have imagined that the old gent, had risen from the dead, and was once more enacting the exciting scenes of long ago. The boat coming into the creek, the Maoris resenting the landing, the fatal shot which killed the Maori, and the first rifle shot heard in New Zealand, were all acted to the very life, and for the benefit of the insidious kinematographe machine, which duly registered it all, and at some future date it will bo reproduced in life-like reality. The Mayor and Mr Ferris had things well in hand, and we are deeply grateful to them for all kindness shown. Thus ended our stay in Gisborne—one of the pleasantest we have'had anywhere.
