LATE NEW ZEALAND.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The infant child of Mr McNeill, Of Mcthvon, was accidentally drowned in a water-race running through the township, Invercargill, last night. The Arbitration Court to-day dealt with the compensation ease, D. Barry v. N.M. and A. Company. Tho applicant was crushed between tracks at Bluff while removing a tarpaulin, and permanently injured. Defendants had paid him 27s 6d per week for a time, and thereafter 15s, and counsel asked that half-pay be continned until £IOO had 'been paid. The Court held that half wages should be paid until the amount was reduced or diminished in accordance with the Act. Barry is 61 years old. The hearing of the Swan murder ease was continued to-day, the evidence for the Crown being finished.
