(Per Press Association.) Anokland, last night. In the Supreme Court John Everett, for breaking and entering and theft, at Nqw Plymouth, was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment.
The dead body of a young man named Henry Sale, missing since August 11, when he went out rowing, was recovered in the harbor to-day. Wanganui, last night. At the Police Court this morning Edward Hickett was fined £lO for procuring liquor for a prohibited person. James Mahoney was fined £1 for procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, and Charles Smith was fined £4 for a similar offence. Wellington, last night. A young man named Walter Jukes was accidentally killed while bushfelling at Ohau to-day. Christchurch, last night. James Lyndhurst, for passing gilded farthings for half-sovereigns, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment. Dunedin, last night. Loo Quee, found smoking opium, I was fined' £5 and costs at the Police Court. Accused said he could not: do without opium. The state of ,his health compelled him to smoke it. Ah You, for having opium suitable for smoking in his possession, was fined £lO and costs. Accused said he was 60 years old, and had smoked opium for 40 years. He could not do without it. The charges against the other Chinamen stand over.
. Hokitika, last night. The Bev. Mr Elliott, president of the West Coast branch of the New Zealand Alliance, states that it has not yet been definitely decided to nominate a candidate for. Westland in connection with the local option .poll. The matter is still under consideration. . In any case the nomination would only be a dummy.
