HARBOR OFFICERS.

XTo the Editor Gisborne .Time*. Sir, —I like fair play, and my experience of yonr paper is that you do, too. Therefore I ask’for-space for this letter. Now, >3ir, I oontena'that the Gisborne Harbor Board is Bimply wasting money in advert tiaiog their jobs. Whose money is it 7 Some might say the ratepayers’; so perhaps as ratepayers, directly and indireotly, .we are entitled to oritioiae their expenditure; I use the words " wasting money ” ndvisedly, as they advertise two jobs, viz., head eloreman and assistant storeman. In reply they receive 36 applications for the former and 60 for the latter. One gentleman is appointed, and because another gentleman mas him dose they appoint him assistant. Now, Sir, my question is, why were the applications of j.OO other men noli considered ?—I am, etc., EOBEBT ALLEN.
