THE EXHIBITION
OFFICIAL PROGRESS REPORT. j(PcE Press Association.) Christchurob, last night. Mr G. S. Munro, Executive Commissioner of the New Zealand International Exhibition, has issued an official review of last week’s progress in connection with the Exhibition.' He purposes issuing a similar report weekly. Last week’s Btates : The building committee has approved of the design of tho main buildings, which have a frontage of 850 feet to the River Avod, and extend 220 feet back, capable of further extension if necessary. Preliminary sketohes of an art gallery, machinery and concert halls are being .prepared by the arohitects, and will be submitted by the building committee shortly. A most complete manual, electric, pneumatic organ has been ordered from Messrs Ingram and 00., Hereford, England, whioh is to be erected in the Exhibition Concert Hall in a playable condition before Ootober let, 1906. Invitations have been issued to the mayors of Dunedin, Wellington, and Auokland, requesting them to convene a meeting of citizens for
the purpose of setting up local advisory committees to represent the Exhibition in those centres, and assist it from a colonial point of view. Shipping agents are being appointed in all the principal ports of the world, whoso duties will be to reoeive and forward exhibits, and advise enquirers as to the most economioal, expeditious and comfortable routes by which to reach the Exhibition. It is proposed to lay the foundation stone of the main building on November Ist, twelve months before the opening day.
