Mrs Slattery and Miss Gilbert will sing a duet with guitar accompaniment at the Salvation Army Barracks to morrow evening.
A warning is given that anyone laying nets across tho river or driving stakes in the river-bed will be prosecuted. At the meeting of the Cook County Conneil yesterday afternoon, Captain Tucker gave notice of motion for next meeting that the supplementary rate be struck this year. The train for Karaka this afternoon will leave half-an-hour later than usual, being timed for 4.30 p.m„ while the train usually leaving Te Karaka at 10.45 p.m. on Saturday will not leave thero until 11.15 p.m. Baptist Church services will be held in thb Theatre Royal to morrow at 11 a tn,, 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. The Rev. D. Parry will officiate, and in the afternoon will deliver an address on prohibition. In the evening he will speak on “ Baptism—what it is, and what it moans.” The address is a reply to critioisms, At a fully representative meeting of the Poverty Bay Paik Company, held last evoning, the motion disposing of the property to the Gisborne Racing Club for the sum of £6OOO was confirmed. Madame Hellior will arrive this morning from the South for the purpose of giving a series of lectures under the auspices 'of ' the Gisborne Spiritualist Society. The first address will bo given in Townley's Hall to morrow evening, the subject being " Christian Spiritualism.” Clairvoyant descriptions will begiven after tho lecture, from articles or writing. At the Police Court yesterday a first offender for drunkenness was cautioned and discharged. Anothor. first offending “drank,” who did not appear, had his bail (£1) estreated, Peter Dove was fined 10s, with costs, for drunkennoHs, his fourth offenoo within six months, Mr Henry Lewis was the presiding justioo. Mr W. Pcryer applied to the Cook County Council yesterday that ho be no longer debarred from tendering. The Chairman explained that ho had been debarred because of insolence to the engineer. The latter said that Mr Peryer had not suffered because his tender was in each case the highest, and he thought it would be as well to allow things to remain as they were for tho time being. The majority of the Counoil upheld this view, and declined to hoar the applioant.
A ceremony of a pleasing nature look placo at the Hotel Coronation last evening, when Mr G. Tattersall was presented, on the eve of his marriage, with a handsome tablo lamp, from the members of the Onion Cricket Club, The presentation was made by Mr G. Priestley, who referred to the indefatigable manner in whioh Mr Tattersall had worked to forward oriokot in the Bay. There was not a more enthusiastic player, and both in season and out of season Mr Tattersall had been most assiduous in his efforts to promote the success of the game. Mr Tattersall suitably replied, and a pleasant hour was spent in social intercourse.
