Somo stir has been oaused in produce oiroles by tuo report that tho abnormally high prioo of onious is duo to a corner by ! a Bmall syndicate, which comprises a member of the Stite Government and one of the prominent supporters of the Government in Parliament. Last yoar at this time onions were £2 per too. To-day they reached £25, aud they are expected to roach £3O. The syndicate is reported to have bought up all the onions in Yiotoria at £6 I to £7 per ton. Tho Premier and Ministor of Agriculture deny having any connection with the syndicate, and do not believe that any of their colleagues are connected with it.
