(Per Press Association.) Auckland, lust night. At the Supreme Court yesterday the jury returned a verdict of not guilty in tho case against William Fiavell, who was arraigned upon a charge of attempting to commit a serious assault upon his daughter at Hua Hua, near Hokianga, in June last. The charge against a man named John Millar, of attempting to commit a serious assault upon a Maori girl under the age of twelve years at Taumarunui, was then proceeded with. The caso for the prosecution had not been concluded when the Court adjourned. In the Supreme Court four Austrians named Patrick and Posnkovich were charged with violently assaulting a fellow - countryman, Lauavich, at Hokianga, and were sentenced, the two oldest to two years, and Tom and John Posnikovich to 18 months’ imprisonment. Feildiog, last night. Mr Owen C. Pleasants, of Halcombe, is announced as a candidate for Oroua seat in the Liberal interest.
Wellington, last night. The Lowry Bay estate of 370 acres, on the eastern side of the harbor, has been sold to a syndicate for a sum between £35,000 and £40,000.
