It is the intention of the Bioramio Company to take a few pictures of life in Gisborne and present them at His Majesty’s Theatre during their season. It is hardly nooetsary to remind our readers of the Hospital social this evening. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the function, and tbero should be a record gathering. Dancing starts at eight o’clock.
Messrs Bain Bros, held a most successful sale of furniture at tbo residence of Captain Whiteley, Wbntaupoko, yesterday. There was a large st'ondaucu, and good prices were realised. Oa Saturday evening several pictures of Rotorua will bo included in the programme. At the Police Court yesterday a man named Edward Lowry wa3 fined £5 and costs for using obscene language at the wharf. He was also charged with throwing stones at a sohooner at the wharf, but was discharged as there was no evidence of anyone having seen the aooused oommit the alleged offence. m>o ordinary hockey, matches will ho postconod at the (Victoria Domain this afternoon to enable the Moana 1 allies. to play their final match with the Gisborne Club. lAric*- noon tea will be provided on the. ground. The Hockey match between the Moana Ladies’- Hookey Club anil the Hign School girls, which was, played at Victoria Domain, yesterday afternoon, resulted in a win for the visitors after a good game. The County Engineer (Mr DeG. Fraser) notifies us that the Muri-wai-Morero road is blocked for wheeled traffic at Jerry’s, cutting. The County Council expect to get it open by Saturday night if the the weather holds 1 good. Tho bridle track is still open.
Light variable winds were experienced in the colony yesterday. Fine weather, with clear sky, was experienced in the Nonh Island, but overcast and gloomy weather was generally repotted from Southern stations. The eoa was heavy off Gisborne, Casth point, and East Cape; rough at Kaikoara ; smooth to considerable elsewhere.
Good progress is being made with the dismantling of the Times office block of buildings, and by the end of the week the ground should bo eloar to the end of Gladstone Road. Tbo erection of so many fine buildings in Peel street should add greatly to the popularity of that street, and considerably enhance its value from n busi noss point of view. We understand that at an early date Mr J. Erskine also intends to build on his soction, which adjoins that of Mi F. Hall.
Tho fortnightly mooting of the Gisborne Roohabito Tent was held last evening, Bro. H. Lord, Chief Ru'c-, presiding. A large amount cf correspondence was dealt with. It wae resolved tn oppos’ any alteration in the baois nf representation of lodges to the Friendly Societies’ Conference, and to advocate the representation of female lodges on the Conference. The ba'ancesheet for the past quarter, which showed an inoreaso both in membership and funds, was presented and adopted, An interesting football match is to be played at Waipukimiu on the 16th instant, between teams representing the builders and commercial travellers doing business in Hawke’s Bay. Tho Association game will bo played, and the proceeds of the match will bs handed to the Waipukurau Hospital, The builders will arrange everything and find jerseys for the travellers. Mr It. W. Raymond, who is at present in Gisborne, is organising tho commercial travellers' team, and hopes to put a strong eleven in the field,

Shortly after noon yesterday a man named Harry Ilooper was found dead in the outhouse connected with a" house occupied by Messrs E. Clements and C, Tills, in Carnarvon street. They had -seen him * two hours prior to discovering that lie Was doald; ho was then evidently. - unwell, tout made no complaint. On returning for their lunch they found him, the body, then being quite warm as if he had only been, dead a short time. Deceased had long been in ill health, aij'd at one time was a nation! in the Hospital, suffering from pleurisy. Deceased is one of a highly-respected family, to whom fciio nows must come as a great shock, The funeral will bo delayed at the request of the deceased’s mother, who comes from Napier on the sad mission connected with the Obsequies. Pain has been caused to friends of the deceased, and natural-: ly m,ust wound the feelings of the relatives, by a statement that deceased had of late been drinking heavily. Mr Burke, licensee of the Record Reign Hotel, for whom Mr Hooper had been working, informs us that Mr Hooper recently left of his own accord, and that during the whole time he was in Mr Burke’s employ he had boen a steady worker and had nevor been seen the worse for liquor this statement is corroborated by many who thought very highly of Mr Hooper, and sympathised with him op account of his ailments.
