ADDINGTON MARKET.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. At AddiDgton Yards—as usual at tho sale the week prior to Ihe Grand National —there were a number of special lines of fat sheep and cattle offered, as well as the first new lambs of the season. There wore fairly large entries in most departments, and a good attendance. Beef Bold well up to last week’s rates. Fat hoggets wets firm, and new lamb sold fairly well. The fat sheep ra'e was firm throughout, both for butchers’ lots and freezing >;nee, Pigs met with a rather belter demand, but there wbb a dull sale for dairy cows,except for best sorts. Stoie sheep—Those offered were breeding ewes and wethers,’and both classes sold readily, especially young ewes and forward wethers. Tho principal lots sold were 177 two, four aud sixth .tooth ewes 28s, 130 sound mouth 23s 4d, 46 aged 16s lOd, 54 meriuos 10s lid, 81 wethers 21s sd, 69 at 19s 3d, 43 at 19s 4d and 95 at 17s 3d. New season's lambs—About 20 were offered, some of which were, however, late hoggets, and they were of various sizes, and the quality was not so good as in former years. Young lambs sold at 12s 6i to 17a and older sorts 19s. Fat hoggets—There was a larger entry than in the previous week, and the quality was also better. There was a good demand for well finished lots, and prices were firmer. Some purebred Border Leceister ewes aDd hoggets were bought for breeding purposes, Heavy weights made 19s lOd to 21s, and extra 24s fid to. 28s 3d, lighter sorts 16s 3d to 19s 3d. Fat sheep—There was a fairly heavy yarding, including some special consignments of heavy aud some very prime lines of freezing wethers and merinos, the quality of the whole yarding being rnuoh

above the average. Tho export buyers operated more freely than for some time past, and had much better lines than usual offered them. There was a good demand right to the end of the sale for all classes of butchers’ sheep. The number of lines taken for freezing have relieved the market of any over-supply. Several pens of prize sheep were amongst those offered, and these brought good prices. One pen of very prime Shropshire wethers, bought at 35s 6d, are to be sent to London. The range of prices was : Wethers, extra prime 28s to 35s 6d, prime 23s 6d to 27s 6d, others 18s 6d So 235; ewes, prime 20s tn 225, medium 17s 8d to 19s 6d, aged 15s to 17s ; meriuo wethers, extra prime to 255, prime 19s to 21s 6d, others 16s to 18s,

Fat cattle.—The entry totalled 231, and there were several prime lines offered, but a considerable proportion of other entries was finished, so that tho quality ranged from inferior to extra prime. There was a verg good demand throughout, though except for best the price was not quite so firm as last week. Amongt tho sales wore nine steers from Mr W. O. Rutherford, Montrose, at £8 15s to £l4 10s ; one Hereford steor from Mr W. Brsdling, Port Levy, at £l3; 6 steers from Chatmoss estate, at £9 15s to £lO 7s 6d, and 16 steors from Hawkswood at £8 to £9 10s ; other steers brought £6 7s Gd to £ll 6s, heifers £5 5s £7 12s 6d ; cows £5 to £6. A large yarding of veal calves sold at 7s 6d to £3.

Storo and dairy cattlo. —There was a small mixed entry, and but little demand! shown. Dairy cows were mostly medium sorts, and only best were in demand at £7 10s to £9 15s, and others at £4 to £7. Pigs.—There was a fairly largo yarding, and u better demand was shown for fats than last week, though prices did. not improve much. Baoonots made 35s to 475, epual to 3,]-d to 3&d per lb ; porkers 22s to 30s, equal to 4d to 4jjd por lb ; largo stores 17s 6d to 225, medium 12a 6d to 17s, and weaners 8s to 10s 6d,
