The directors of the Union S.S. Company bave voted £IOO to the Dunedin Hospital extension fund. A meeting of ladies was held this afternoon arid preliminary arrangements made for collection on Hospital Saturday. ■ , At a meetiag of the executive of the Otago League it was resolved to support the petition of tie residents of Central Otago, asking the Government to place £207000 on the estimates to erect dams to conserve water for irrigating land on the .elopes of the Dnnstan Bangs, Earnseleugh S'lat and Dnnstan Flat. The matter of extension of Walton Park railway _to Brighton was brought up, and the petition submitted that at present the railway is only used for the carriage of coal, but if extended four miles further at an estimated Co3t of £15,000. it would roach Brighton, a favorite watering place, and benefit a large agricultural and dairying district, and that Brighton would be a most suitable place for workmen’s homes. Before signing the petition it wa» resolved to consnlt the. oity faiembers and the member fpr Taiero as to Aha advisability of pushing the matter forevard this session.
