Per Press Association. Waimate, last night. In response to the request of the president of the New Zealand Alliance, and of Messrs T. E. Taylor and Bedford of the New Liberal Party, Mr George Dash, secretary of the Waimate Temperance Reform Union, has consented to contest the Waitaki seat.

MR BOLLESTON’S ADDRESS. (Per Press Association.)

Timaru, last night. Mr F. J. Bolleston, solicitor, son of the late Hon. W. Rolleßton, addressed a crowded meeting to-night in the theatre a 3 a candidate for tho nest election. He was received with applause and cheers. Ho was opposed to the present Government on grounds of administration. He was not in favor of the repeal of the existing legislation, but anticipated that amendments would bo necessary from time to time with ohanging circumstances. On the land question he favored giving life settlers tbe freehold at the original valuation. He considered the Education Department required re-organising, and deprecated tho present tendency to centralisation. Ho was opposed to Bible in schools and a referendum on tho subject-, and to a referendum in general. He advocated reform of the Civil Service through an independent board, and the independence of magistrates, also the reform of the Legislative Council, preferably by election by both Houses. He complained that the Publio Works Fund was not properly administered, and tho romody was tho extension of the powers of local bodies. On the licensing question he would leave the law as it is, with present powers in the hands f the people. Ho had a warm, sympathetic meeting, there being much applause and frequent cheering.. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried by a large show of hands. >
