GISBORNE RAILWAY
BAY OE PLENTY ANXIOUS TO ; CO OPERATE.
Last evening Mr W, (.faqdlP; honorary secretary of the East Coast ", jijajljyay League, received the following communication from Mr F, W. L. Kirk, secretary of the Bay of Plenty League : “ At tho annual meeting of tho Bay of Plenty Railway League, held recently, there was a strong feeling expressed of the desirability of co-operating with your League in endeavoring to secure .the ex, tonsion of the railway line from Te Karaka to the Motu. I am directed by the Executive Committee to convey to you this League’s congratulations on tlie.sac* cess of your efforts so far, and its entire sympathy with yoqr desire ft for further extension towards the Motu, and fo pssurp you of the committee’s willingness jo do all in its power to assist in every possible way in bringing about this result. It is considered that pressure brought to bear upon the Government by both districts at the same time is likely to be successful. We have n petition now in hand, signed by practically all the settlers in this district, asking the Government to construct the lino to the Motu as speedily a 3 possible- My committee suggest that a similar petition be sent to the House from Poverty Bay, both petitions te be presented at tbe same time by the members for the respective districts. In the meantime this League will be glad to hear what steps you are taking with a view to keep* ing the matter of railway communication before the notice of the public and the House, and to know in what way thev can fca of help," , .
