THE WEATHER.
RIVER 3 IN HIGH'FLOOD.
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE BOADS.
• The heavy rains of tho last few dayß have caused tho rivors throughout the district to rise considerably, and in many places there are fears of serious floods unless an improvement in the weather takes place this morning. Tho Taruheru and Waimata rivers wore higher last evening than they have been for many years and a great amount of debris was brought down.
Beports from our coastal correspondents are somewhat . alarming, much damago having been to £hs roads on account of the heavy slips which have taken place. The up coastal ooach could not get further than Pakarae yesterday owing to two heavy slips between that place and Toiago Bay. The eoaoh had only Grossed tho Pakarae river a few minutes before tho punt was oarried away, and it is not ex pected that the punt will be back imposition for a day or so. Messrs Bedstone and Sons will send a second coach to Pakarae to-day so as to enable the down passengers and mails to reach Gisborne this evening, that is assuming that the coach is able to get through from Toiago, whioh at present is exceedingly doubtful. The eoaoh from Waipiro to Toiago Bay fared eyen worse, being compelled to return to the former place, the flooded com dition of the stream on the Tokomaru side of the Te Puia Springs preventing either eoaoh or pack horses from getting through. At Tokomaru there was a heavy fall of rain, nearly five inches being recorded in the twenty-four hours. Tho Wairoa eoaoh reached Tiniroto laßt evening after a very rough trip, and the Morere eoaoh also reached its destination aB Tho Waipaoa was rising very rapidly last evening. When tho telephone offices closed the reports were to the effect that if the rain continued with much force throughout the night it was feared the river would be over the banks,
