LOCAL MATTERS.

Napior, last night. At the meeting of the .Education Board to-day the following matters of interest to the Poverty Bay district were dealt with :

The Education Department intimated that the Bailway Department had authorised the stationmaster at Gisborne to issue

free tickets to pupils attending classes in dressmaking and woodwork at Glsborno. Members spoke strongly deprocating the delay of the Department in dealing with the re-erection of the Gisborne school, and the following resolution was passed, to bo forwarded by wire to the Minister

for Education :—“ The Board deprecates the Department’s extreme delay regarding the ra building of tbo Gisborno school, destroyed bv fire io December last, and

strongly urges that sanction be given and money grarited, so that the work can be proceeded with without further delay.” Matawhero : The tender of Messrs Clayton Bros, was accepted at £27 10s for paint ng and repairs, and £8 added for additional work.

Waeronga-a-hika: A recommendation by the architect that repairs and painting at a total oost of £2l be carriod out was adopted. Tokomaru : Tho sum of £6 was granted for tho opening of a small, school at Maogatarata, tho children to be required to attend the Tokomaru school for examination.

Whatatutu : Estimate of fencing to bo obtained and dealt with by tho Chairman. Waipiro : Application for £l6 11s 6d for erecting gates declined. Department to bo approached to provide a grant of £350 for orectioa of master’s residence.
