MATCH AGAINST SURREY.

At the Oval to-day the Australians began a match against Surrey. The .weather was dull, the wicket gbod, and thoro was a fair attendance of the public. A change was iuade in the County team, StedmaD, Rushby, and Smith being selected in place of Raphael, Lees, Strudwiok, and Baker. Laver, Hopkins, Newland, and Gregory are not playing for the colonials. Darling won the toss.- Trumper and Armstrong opened the innings, tho former being dismissed when the board showed 15. Armstrong was joined by Hill, and while the newcomer hit out freely Armstrong played cautiously, eventually playing Rushby on. Two for 47. of which Hdl had 25 to his credit. -Noble, like Armstrong, played tbe ball on to his wicket. . Three for 63. Duff aad Hill then made a good stand, tho fourth wicket not going down until 122 was on the sheet, when Hayes beat Duff. Darling followed. Hill carried his soore to 89, when Smith got him leg-before. The South Australian had played a fine inniDgs of 95 minutes’ duration, and hit one five and 11 footers. Five for 150.
