Nolan, Crown solicitor, on behalf of the profession, congratulated his Worship on his oxtended jurisdiction. The profession were unanimously of opinion that the enlarged jurisdiction had been giveD into able and good hands, ond they had no doubt that the good feeling that had hitherto existed would continue. In reply, Mr Barton said hcoould ouly say that ho would carry out his enlarged duties to the best of his ability. When he took his seat upon the Bench he had promised to act without fear, favor, affection, malice, or ill-will, and he had tried to do this. The pleasantest relations had existed between the Bar and the Bench, and he hoped these would long continue. The extended jurisdiction enables" Mr Barton to hear cases in which tho olaim reached £2QO, and will be of great advan-' tags to the public.
