SALE AT' MATAWHEKQ' [YARDS.
The Matawhoro stook sales were held hold yesterday. There waa a good attendance of the public. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. and Dalgety and Co. jointly report:— Wo hold our fortnightly stock sale at Matawhero yesterday. There was splendid weather and good attendance. Our entry oonsisted of SOO sheep and 100 head of cattlo. Fat sheep were in good demand, and as the entry was of first-class quality prices were fully maintained. Fat wethers brought from 18s 7d to 20s 7d, and fat owes 16s 3d, 17s lOd and 19s.
Store sheep were not so strongly represented, consequently competition was not quite so keen. Anything showing good quality sold well. , Aged 'ewes were neglected, three pens being passed. Good etoro wethers from 17s 4d to 18s, aged ewes in lamb 14s 4d, twelve empty owes 10s, twelve hoggets 9s lOd. Cattle—The balk oE this entry was[dairy cartlo, many being of excellent quality. Owing to the scarcity o£ food very few dairymen wore operating, and sellers in many cases refused current values. Wo sold a number of cows close to calving or newly calved as under —£10, £9 ss, £7 10s, £7 Cs, £7 2s 6d, £7, £6 18s 6d,£6 10s, £6 2s 6d, £6, £5 15s, £5 10s, down to £5. Eighteen month heifers brought £3 10s, weaners from 25s to 30s. Fat cattle—Fifteen bullocks, not well forward, brought £6 Bs, fat cows, light weight, £5 ss. Messrs Williams and Kettle and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company held their sale at Matawhoro yesterday. The yarding consisted of 1100 sheep, 300 head of cattlo, and 150 pigs. Sheep—Prices wore as follows 82 hoggets in. poor condition 6s 4d, 58 ewes do 11a ||ld, 77 empty ewes 5s 9d, 53 ewes 15s 9d, 97 ewes 103 3d, 18 ewes 15s 9d, 80 hoggets 12s 6d, 29 ewe 3 15s, 10 big hoggots 16s 6d, 14 two and if our tooth wethers 16s.
Cattle—l cow 30s, springers £4 to £4 7s 6d, dairy cows £4 to £7 12s 6d, 1 beef cow £6, 1 springing cow £5 15s, 1 heifer in calf £5 2s 6d, 41 store steers £3 18s Bd, 21 steers and heifors £3, 5 cows £2 7a 6d, 2 heavy weight beef cows £8 2s 6d, 6 heifers £3 17s 6d, 13 heifers £4.
Pigs—Tho market showed more activity than usual, and most of the lots changed owners. Two big pigs sold at £2 Bs, 3 smallor ones £2, 5 young pigs 10s, 2 sows 19s. 8 small pigs 10s, 1 baconer 455, 1 sow 365, 5 weaners ss, 12 pigs 15s, 7 young weaners 4s 6d, 8 porkers 20s, 7 porkers 225, 7 porkers 265.
