At a large and enthusiastic gathoriug a requisition of 2300 signatures was presented to Mr Murdoch McLean, a wellknown Auckland business msD, to contest the Parnell seat. Mr McLean, in consenting to stand, declared himself to be an Oppositionist. Dunedin, last night. There was another full house at the Princess Theatre this evening, when the finals of iho New Zealand amatour boxing championships were decided. The results were :—Middle weight, A. Leckio beat F. Nash; bantams, E. Baird beat A. L. Gray ; feather weight, G. Morris beat J. W. Barnett; light weight, G. Williams beat R. Mayze ; heavy weight, W. Robertson beat Tressider. The following have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Australasian amateur boxing championshipsßantam, E. Baird; feather weight, J. Morris ; light weight, G. Williams ; heavy weight, E. Leckie. Christchurch, last night.

A. firs was discovered in the premises occupied by the Excelsior Boot Company, in Lichfield and Madras streets, opposite the fire brigade station, at about 20 minutes to 11. The outbreak occurred in the top storey, and had got a fairly good hold when a fireman saw flames from the station. The brigade managed to confine the fire to the uppe? storey.
