Good entries have been received for Messrs Williams and Kettle’s stock sale at Matawhero on Thursday next. The sale starts at 11.09.
Messrs Bain Bros, advertise a sale of shrubs and fruit trees on behalf of Messrs W. Hay and Son, the well known nurserymen, p£ Auckland. A change of advertisement for the Melbourne Cush will appear tomorrow. They have still a tow remnants left from their great- bargain Bale. A vary successful open-air concert wa given by" the City Bund on tho Waikanae beach yesieid-iy afternoon. There was a largo attendance, and the music was much enjoyed.
Mr George Milier advertises a continue, tioo to-day of his auction sale in the pre mises lately occupied by Mr W. Morgan, on the corner of Gladstone road and Peci street.
Messrs Common, Shelton and Co, and Dalgety and Co. hold their usual stock sale at Mstswhcro on Thursday. Present entries include several good lines of sheep, a number of dairy heifers, and lo beef bullocks.
Mrs Slattery and Mtes Gilbert sang as a duet, “ The Peuitent’s Flea,” with good effect at tho Salvation Army service last evening. Tho Barracks was packed by a most attentive congregation.
Mr A. C. Galbraith has severed his connection with the local branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company to QDter tho office of the Tyeer Company at Napier. Mr Galbraith, who left by the s.e. Talune last evening, was. tho recipient of several presentations prior to his departure.
Share was a large attendance at Messrs Bain Bros.' auction mart on Saturday,, aod good business was reported both _in produce and furniture. The following were the quotations Batter (dairy) la per lb, poultry (table) 2s to os 3d, egg 3 to is 4d per dozen, onions 2d per lb. potatoes l.fd per lb, cabbages 2s 8d a dozen, bacon 6jd per lb, kumeras lid per lb. Tho Welliugton Boxing Association’s contests concluded cu Friday night. The results were as follows :—Bantams, Tracey beat Colvin ; heavy-weights, Ma'oney beat Allen; feather-weights, Gosling defeated Hill ; light-weights, Williams boat Bodley and was awarded the prize for the most scientific display; middle-weights, Lettingten beat Harvey. There was a bout between two professionals, W. Murpby. ex-champion of the world, and G. Clark, of Sydney. The exhibition was stopped at the fifth round, Murphy receiving the worst of it.
Considerable interest was taken in tho drawing of the art union at the Poultry Show on Saturday, the winning numbers of wbioh are to be found in another column. The first prize (a golden nugget) fell to Miss Courtney, of Gisborne, and the second (a-hall staudi to Mr 3 IS. Cox, of K.ait\ The third prize was drawn by Mr,star Boler, the. fourth by Mr ,T. O’Neill,
and the fifth by Mr K. Decent. Miss D. Chrisp secured tho eighth prize. The drawing was under the supervision of the Committee, who were assisted by Messrs W. Pettie and F. J. Rowley. At the close Mr Pettie returned thanks to the public for the generous support accorded to the
Show, which was in every way the most successful yet held in Gisborne.

A notice in connection with the Tolago Bay pound appears in this issue." The Lavenhan bridgo will be closed tomorrow during repairs. Tondors ato invited by Mr Wilson, architect, for the erection of a school at Tokomaru.

The annual meeting of parishioners* of Holy Trinity Church will be held this evening. The past year has been on© of the most successful in the history of tho church.
An important gale of furniture is announced by Messrs IBain Bros, for Friday next on account of Mr J. C. Bond, who is leaving this district.
An evening’s enjoyment for dancers is provided for Thursday evening, when tho annual Bechabito social takes place in His Majesty’s Theatre. Saturday's Auckland Herald states: — Mr W. Elvvarth, of tho Alpha Sawmill aud Timber Company, Gisborne, loft for Whangarei by the Ngapuhi last night, on business connected with the company. A meeting of the Hospital Social Committee is called for this evening at the Borough Council Chambers, as will be seen in our advertising columns. At the Police Court on Saturday morning a charge of driving round the corner of Lowe street and Gladstone road at other than a walking pace on the 18th insfc. was preferred ngainsr. tho Rev. Mokai Keroru. Defendint was convicted and fined 10s, costs 7s.
A meeting of ladies will be held tomorrow evening ©t 7 130 at the Technical school, when Mrs Thumbs will giv» a demonstration of dressmaking with a visw of forming a claims.
We are informed on good authority that there is every prospect tbas the Rev Perry will be a candidate for the Waiatpu scat in opposition to tho Hon. «T. Carroll. He is an able speaker, and will o'aad in the prohibition interest.
Tho Collector of Customs has received advice that owing to tho large importa tions of potatoes for ordinary consumption being. claimed to bo for seed purposes, tho Department has decided that all potatoes shall be charged with duty aa provisions, 20 per cent.
The annual show of the Gisborne Poultry Fanciers’ Club was brought to a close on Saturday, there being a record attendance. The killing and plucking operations carried on by Mr Pounsford, Government grader, of Auckland, provoked a great amount of interest, as also did the sale of tbo prize cako, the innovation proving a most popular one. It is expeetied that tho show will prove a great financial success.
A large number of persons attended Mr Mr Howes’ meeting in Townley’s Hall last evening. The lecturer gave a very interesting address, relating his experiences in psychic research, aud strongly advocating that all interested in the Ufa beyond the grave should investigate for themselves and prove tbo truth of spirit return. He also related many inotancea of clairvoyance in which tho persons and facts described had boon proved.
The brethren of tho Turanganui Dodgo U.A.O.D, made aa official visit to Te Karaka on Friday evening last for the purpose of initiating new members, when ten candidates were duly initiated in a very impressive manner by A.D. Bro.
Darfcon. There was a very large attendance of members from all pacts of the district. During the meeting P.D.P. Bro. Neenan stated that b 3 had twenty candidates for initiation at Ormond. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bro. Allen for the sumptuous repast provided for the brethren. It was decided to hold another meeting at an early date for the purpose of initiating a large number of candidatos, who were unable to be present on account Qfc the bad state of the roads. On leaving Te Ka.raka three cheora were given for Bro. Allen.
