GENERAL NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A farewell dance was tendered to Miss Neale by the residents oi Port Awanui on Friday evening. Tba building of the Dew post office at Waipiro Bay is progressing satisfactorily, and is rapidly approaching completion. A tent in which Mr H. Wilson (schoolmaster at Waipiro) and his wife were living was destroyed by fire on Wednesday morning. The amount of damage was about £6O. A two-roomed house belonging to Mr A. B. Williams, and occupied by Mr F. Lloyd, at Mangahawini, was also destroyed by fire on Wednesday morning. The fire took place when Mr Lloyd was absent in Tokomaru. Tho origin of tho fire is supposed to have boon a defective obimney. The schooners Aotea and Waiapu were working Waipiro on Wednesday. The weather for the past few days has been exceptionally fine, with rather oold
nights. The roads are in a very bad state, and the mail coach has many difficulties to overcome.
Messrs J. Hansen and A. Wylie are at present working on the coatt in connection with electoral matters. It is understood that the Waipiro Hotel, owned by Mr G. F. Pettis, is about to change hands, Mr G. Murphy, of Taranaki, being tho purchaser.
