THE MAORI.
[(To the Editor Gisborne Times, yir,—Hansard is interesting, especially is it when the-Address-in-Reply is given in its pages. The field over which: members of the Parliament are at liberty to range over is by custom and usßge of unlimited extont, not only in the use our representatives make .of good sound" aonse,. But'also in the abuse, many of these gentlemen put whatever share of common sense they may by lucky ehanoe bo endowed with, in, their wanderings about and searchings for a theme to exercise their fresh ideas, polished and strengthened- by their studies and cogitations during the recess. The Governor’s speoial spoeoh reminds, Paddy-go-aisy, your humble sarvint, sir, of the apothegms. If to do good were as aisy as it is to know what were good to do, public.houses had been churches ; and poor men’s . cottages princes’ palaces.” Here we have again, put into the mouth—an ugly mouthful it is too—of, that poorbul honest man —the Governor —that ugly tabloid, the Porirna and other for God’s oako gifts of the old-timo Maori chieftains to the genial but easily imposed on dear old Governor —Sir George Giey. But who could say no* to a Bishop ; woll, it was not the'Bishop’s fault —no, nor the Governor’s, no, it was nobody’s fault; and if the Maori W’i Parata —Paddy-go-aisy—-knows the lialf-easte Wi Parata—if he thinks that our Governor and all the mitred and be-aproned'Bishops-in Christendom and outside of it in the otbor world ore willing to relinquish their ill-gotten, or their wellgotten gains to Wi Parata and his Bimplehearted people, they will find themselves out of court. The maxim—The rectification of a wroDg, is often a greater wrong than the wrong itsolf—holds good in this instance. —Yours in confidence, Paddy-go-aisy-ksqbe.
