SO-CALLED DEFENCE LEAGUE,

(Per. Press Association.) Dnnedin, last night. At a meeting of the National Education Defence League the following resolution was adopted : —“ That the city and suburban members of Parliament be requested to see that when Mr Sidey’s Bill reaches the Committee stage the first issue to be put before the electors in the proposed referendum shall be, as was the case in the South Australian and Victorian referendums, 1 Are you in favor of the continuance of the present system of national education ? 1 ” It was decided to invite the co-operation of other leagues in the endeavor to have the above question included in the Bill. It wa3 resolved to call the attention of Education Boards to the infringement of the Education Act by the Mornington School Committee in permitting religious instruction during school hours.
