Mr Redmond said it was unbelievable that Government would swallow such humiliation after two years of incessant rebuffs at the electorates.
Mr Balfour replied that he was unconscious of humiliation. Unless he was able to condnet tbo bnsineas'with dignity he would certainly not try. After consulting his colleagues ha would mako an aunounce moot on Monday. The Times says the incident, is not necessarily decisive, but is unquestionably serious since it is not a snap vote, although the majority was almost certainly acoi dental.
Tho Standard says the contretemps was due to on accident and misapprehension, not to any faltering of the majority’s allegiauoe. The Daily Tolegraph considers it absurd to suppose the Government will resign or dissolve on a Bide issue.
