POLICE COMMISSION.
Per Press Association. Dunedin, last night. Tho police ' Commission this morning took the evidence of Inspector Mitchell, in
charge of Southland district. The gist of his evidence was that he was of opinion that a constable Bhould not know when to expect a visit from the sergeant, and the sergeants in tarn should" have surprise visits from the sub-inspector. The subinspector should be relieved of the duty of prosecuting detective cases in Court, the chief detective taking that work. The deteotivos should be under the snb-inspeotor at night, as well as under the sub-inspec-tor by day. In that way the detectives and uniformed police would be a oheok on each other.
