CHRISTCHURCH NEWS.
.(Per Press Association.) . Christchuroh, last night An old man named Milne, who had been missing for some days, has returned to his home. He had been Btaying with a friend. Milne is of rather weak intelleot, and is aged 82. The Trades and Labor Council passed this resolution : “ This Council having had a statement made to it that Messrs Price and Sons, engineers and ironfounders, of Thames, had possession of drawings for a number of new locomotives required by the Railway Department, begs to express disapproval of any particular firm having advantage over other firms in this direction ; and futther wish to reiterate our often-expressed opinion that this class of work should be manufactured in our own railway workshops.” The balance-sheet of the Sydenham Working Men’s Club shows but a small profit. The qhairman, at the annual meeting, said he was ashamed to move the adoption of the balance-sheet. No doubt the stock mentioned in it had been received on the premises, but there had beea a serious leakage of beer. Ho was quite unable to trace about a .third of the stock —asoanda'ous position to be in. The club had not been properly managed ; otherwise it would pay. One member said the cost of stock was £l9O more than last year, but the returns showed a falling off of .£379, and the membership had been reduced by 62. The balance-sheet was adopted.
