ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(Per Press Association.) ( Auckland, last night. Obituary : John Lambert Tole, surveyor, brother of the Hon. J. A. Tole. Reginald Scott, arrested on suspicion of stealing money from W, A. Williams, storekeeper at Rotorua, while being conveyed by train from Morrinsviiie to Rotorua, jumped between the carriages, and was killed. His. body was fearfully mutilated. The circumstances of the death of Mrs Rebecca Grigg, at her residence, Arch Hill, as revealed ot the inquest, were of a sensational character. The evidence showed that deceased was very much emaciated. Dr Keith said had medical aid been rendered a fortnight prior to the woman’B death there is every possibility that life would have been prolonged; in fact, her life might have been saved. Her death was due to an abscess. Incoming to theia verdict, the jury, in accordance with the summing-up of the Coroner (Mr Gresham) also found that death was accelerated by the wilful neglect of deceased's husband, Franciß George Gripg, who was subsequently orroßted upon a charge of manslaughter. Grigg appeared at tho Police Court this morning, und was remanded. Rotorua, last night. Further particulars show that the death of Reginald Soott was due to determined suicide. His body was mutilated. Ho arrived by the goods train on Saturday night. An inquest will be held on Weddesday. Hia parents are in Auckland, and have been eommunicatod with to enable them to attend the funeral, which will probably bo hold to-morrow. Scott was suspected of several thefts heye. He was in charge of Constable Pratt when he committed suicide,
Wellington, last night. Mary Ann O’Neill, aged 65, a resident of Wadestown, was found in tho house of a relative at Petone with her throat cut. She is in a critical condition. Suicide is suspeoted-
Greymouth, last night. Obituary : Mr G. S. Smith, one of the oldeßt Greymouth residents. Blenheim, last night. Obituary : Alexander Monro, of tho Bank House estate, Wairau Valley, aged 65 years. Deceased was a son of Sir David Monro, one of the earliest runholders of Marlborough, and had connection with the pastoral affairs of the province for many years. Ho loaves o, wife and young family. The sisters of depeasecj are' Liady Hector, wife of Sir James Hector, and Mrs F. Dillon, of Marlborough, aud there is a brother at Palmerston North.
