The quarterly meeting of the Hawke s Bay Land Board wns hold at Gisborne yesterday. There woro prosont Mossrs E. O Gold-Smith (Commissioner of Crown Lands), B, Groomo, and G. Mr W. small grazing run 87, Wigan settlement. — Mr J. W. Bright appeared.—The Crown Lands Ranger’s report wns favorable, and exemption was granted from residenoe a 9 requested, on the understanding that ho would have to bnild. Tho Crown Lands Ranger roportod upon sections IS, 19, 20, and 21, block 11., Motn survey district.—lt was dooidod that a reoommendation bo made to put the land np at .£3 an acre upsot price, dense in perpetuity, under village settlement oonditions.
James Taylor wrote asking for a lease for 21 years over seotion 4, Tarata block, area 9 acres 1 rood 20 poles.—The Board decided that applicant be informed ho is in illegal ocoupation of Crown lands ; but will bo offered miscellaneous lease at £2
10s per annum. The District Surveyor reportsd on drains at Willows Settlement Regarding Mr Jackson’s oomplaint. It was deoided, provided tho settlers wero willing to contribute, to ask the Department to give a subsidy. The cost was placed at 4160. The Land Board was asked to consider
the offering of Wharekopao accommodation house reserve for Jea“.e, and to provide for school reservo. —Doubt was expressed as to whether anyone would take up tbo lease, and put np an accommodation house at present. The Board therefore deoided to hold over tbe reserve for future disposal.; In regard to the leasing of stoek reserve at Tinirotc, 20 acres, it was resolved to offer it as publio auction, under the Publio Roserves Act, for £5 a year for 14 years, subject to access beiDg given to the publio to the two fords.
Exemption from residenoe at Wigan was granted Hannah Caldwell, and exemption from residence for six months was granted to Miss Wilkinson.
Applications for freehold :—F. Sherriff, occupation with right of purchase, sections 3 and 11, blocks X. and XI, Motn, and perpetual lease section 5, block XL, Motn, —Granted.
The following applications for land were approved:—C. M. Simson, 1000 aores, block XIII., Motu survey district ; V. A. Pyke, 1000 aores, block XIII., Motu survey district 1 ; G. T. Kent, section 5, block IX., Hangaroa survey 'district; O. H. CulleD, seotion 8, block XI., Lindsay settlement; A. Aislabie, section 34, Tiniroto village ; A. Aislabie, sections 35 and
86, Tiniroto village. - Local bodies’ proposals were approved as follows: —Arai Road Board, .£49 8s lid; Patutahi Road Board, £8 5s Bd.
Tbe following transfers were granted : T. M. Frampton to M, E. Cottrell, small
grazing run 55, Tutamoe and Tokomaru ; J. G. and P. Riddle to M. G. Joblin, sections 6 and 15, blocks XIV. and XV., Nuhaka North. The application of J. McNeil to transfer section 2, block X., Wigan, to his sister was refused on the ground that there was not sufficient reason given for the proposed
ranafer. Mrs W. Perry, holder of a section in the Wigan settlement), applied for leave to reside with her husband on his property. As the application arrived too late for the Board meeting it will be dealt with at the next sitting in Napier.
