MURCHISON TRAGEDY.

(Per Press Association.) Nelson, last night. In connection with the Murchison' explosion a Murchison correspondent of the Evening Mail writes under date 14th:The Polico - Inspector noticed Sewell's eccentric behaviour, and enticed him out-* side the room, and with Constable Scott went to arrest him. Sewell evidently guessed his intention, and fumbled in his waistcoat pocket. There immediately fol lowed a fearful explosion. Sewell’s body, except the legs, was blown to atoms. Inspector Wilson and Sunn lay stunned closfe by seriously injured. Constable Scott and Mr Fittall were 100 yards away. The direction of the explosion just missed others standing by, or all would have been blown to atoms. As evidence of the force of the : explosion, it is shown that a fence three ! yards away was blown to pieces. The explosion just missed the hall, of which a corner was broken, and the building was shifted three inches out of plumb. All the windows in the vicinity within sixty feet were smashed to atoms. The explosion was.heard six miles away. The concussion affected crockery two miles away. Great praise is due to Wilson and Scott for getting Sowell from the building, Bunn is not expected to reoover.
