It was pointed I out to the Minister that included among I the inmates of the Benevolent Home at I present were 22 old-age pensioners. Some I of the meu wont out of tho Homo about I the last day of each month, drew their j pensions, I'spent the money, and then returned, saying, in effect, “ You will have to I keep us.” Tfid Trustees had no powor to I prevent that f|oing on, but they claimed to I be placed in a position of being able to reI tain the whole of the pension luonoy for maintenance in such cases. As-this State paid twice for such people, it paid to keep them in the Homes, and paid them pensions as well. As a matter of economy such pensions should be cancelled. The Minister agreed that it was an extraordinary state of things. He would bring the ’matter before the Minister in charge of tho Old-Age Pension Depart- , rnent. i
