The Citizens’ Life Association has purchased £2OOO worth of New Plymouth borough debentures at par. WELLINGTON, Saturday. It was a question for the legislators whether the whole commercial life of the'colonies should be subjeot ,to such appeals.
NELSON, Saturday. The trouble at the Puponga coal mine .with the miners is assuming an aonte phase, and by resolution of the Union the men ceased work last. Wednesday, claiming payment of wages said to be overdue, and desiring regular pay. Mr Haywards, the Company’s attorney, arrived at the mine yesterday, and at once' ordered payment, but a difficulty arose as to the method. A few accepted, payment and the mine was temporarily closed down. A meeting of local unions was held, and it was resolved to.soek the advice of othor unions to bring tbe matter before the Arbitration Coarc. Tbe action of the men is regarded at Collingwood as precipitate, ae they were receiving high wages t individually, their monthly cheques amounting to £2O.
