B ji telegraph, Press Ass’n, Copyright LondoD, July 13. There was a good attendance when the match Somerset v. Australians began today. The weather waa fine, and the wicket hard. Payritz, Richardson, and Thomas replaced Loe, Hardy, and Crahfield in the county team, while Howell, Gregory, Hopkins, and Newland stood out of ,the Australian side. Darling won the toss, and sent in Trumpor and Armstrong to face the bowling of Braund and Thomas. After .each batsman bad narrowly escaped playing the ball on early in their innings, they opened out and runs came quickly, 145 appearing as the result of 1£ hour’s ploy. Then Trumper gave Palairet on easy chance at extra mid off. He gave an admirable display of all-round cricket, though his innings was marked by less cutting than usual. At 7.4 Trumpor completed his 1000 runs for the season. Armstrong, who was .55 when Trumper retired, had obtained his score chiefly by excellent driving. Hill had a brief innings, and the score stands at two for 182.
