iPex- Press . Association. X Christchurch, last night. A hiatus in the tram system still exists by which the Manchester street section cannot be used, though completed and ready ttyo months ago. The rails were laid too High above the street level and too near one side of the street, leaving a dangerous drop. Tho Government inspector, considering the line dangerous, refused to pass if. Negotiations failed between the Tramway Board and ,the City Council as to covering in the side/ channel and so reduce the steepness of the drop. In con. sequence, tramway traffic has been taken along Colombo street to the railway. Manchester street is the main thoroughfare to the railway etation, and tha line cost several thousand pounds. The fiity Council estimates the cost at ,62000 to raise the street level. Traffic returns on all sections that are running up to data are-satis-factory.
